Süleyman BOŞÇA

Chairman of the International Board

Süleyman Boşça, the founder and managing partner of BOSCA Law Firm, graduated from Ankara University in 2001. Mr. Boşça, who completed his Master’s Degree in Private Law, is also continuing his PhD in Energy Law. He completed the Energy Law Certificate Program organized by the Banking and Commercial Law Research Institute in 2005.  Süleyman Boşça presented papers in many national and international meetings and symposiums in the field of energy law and also gave lectures in this field. He has taken an active role in the preparation, negotiation, and management of many contracts, from energy supply contracts to EPC contracts and dispute resolution process in the energy sector. He is currently Chairman of the Energy Law Research Institute, Chairman of the Energy Efficiency Association Ankara Branch, Africa Coordinator Vice President and Chairman of the Turkey-Seychelles Business Council of the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK), member of the Turkish National Committee of the World Energy Council and Member of the African Energy Chamber.He has experience in the fields of energy law, commercial and corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, project finance, sports law, public procurement contracts and law, intellectual property law.


Prof. Dr. Mads ANDENAS

International Board Member

Mads Andenas holds a Chair in the Faculty of Law, the University of Oslo (from 2008). Mads Andenas is an advokat in Norway and a barrister in England and Wales. He has held senior academic appointments in the United Kingdom, including as Director of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, London and Director of the Centre of European Law at King’s College, University of London. He remains a Visiting Research Fellow of the Institute of European and Comparative Law, University of Oxford and a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, School of Advanced Studies, University of London. He has been the General Editor of the International and Comparative Law Quarterly. He is currently the General Editor of European Business Law Review and an Editor of European Public Law (both Kluwer Law International) and on the editorial boards of some ten other law journals and book series, including as a member of the Advisory Committee of Peking University Law Journal. He is a member of the Executive Council of the International Law Association, the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators and the Advisory Board of the HKU Asian Institute of International Financial Law.


Prof. Dr. Peter CAMERON

International Board Member

Peter Cameron is Professor of International Energy Law and Policy and Director of the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee. He is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and has held visiting professorial appointments at the Universities of Madrid (Autonoma), MGIMO (Moscow) and Singapore (NUS). He played a leading role in establishing the International Energy Arbitration Centre in Edinburgh and also the UK Association of Energy Law and Policy. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; a long-time member of the International Bar Association and has served on several of its committees, and is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. He qualified as a barrister (England and Wales, Middle Temple), and has regularly been asked by governments and investors to testify in litigation and international arbitral proceedings as an expert. He is one of a handful of lawyers in Scotland to sit as an arbitrator at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Peter was elected as Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2013 and was made a Fellow of the Energy Institute in 2018. He is Vice-President of the European Federation of Energy Law Associations and chair of its Scientific Committee.


Prof. Dr. Gbolahan ELIAS

International Board Member

Gbolahan Elias is a Partner in G. Elias & Co. in Lagos, Nigeria. He is a member of the Nigeria Bar Association and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). He is also registered with the New York bar. He was an associate at Cravath Swaine & Moore, a pre-eminent New York law firm, 1989–1993. Prior to that, he read law at Oxford University, England, and obtained all of his four degrees – BA (1st Class Honours), MA BCL (also 1st Class Honours), D. Phil. – from Oxford University. His practice covers taxation, corporate finance, litigation, mergers and acquisition, power, oil and gas, and telecommunications. He is a member of the International Academy of Defence Counsel, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK London Court of International Arbitration and Chartered Institute of Taxation and a fellow of the Energy Institute. Gbolahan is ranked as Band 1 lawyer in Chambers Global, 2016 in Banking and Finance, Corporate/Commercial, Band 2 in Dispute Resolution and Energy & Natural Resources.


Prof. Dr. A.F. Munir MANIRUZZAMAN

International Board Member

Professor A F M Maniruzzaman is Chair in International and Business Law, University of Portsmouth, UK, and a member of the Centre for Blue Governance and the Centre for European and International Studies Research, an interdisciplinary center of international excellence. He served as the Director of Research and Postgraduate Research Degrees in Law, University of Portsmouth Business School. He is a Professorial Honorary Fellow at the Centre of Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy, the University of Dundee, and Honorary International Advisor & Adjunct Professor of Law, Eastern University, Bangladesh. He served as the Honorary Special Adviser to the Honourable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He is an Academic Council Member of the ITA, USA; member of ILA International Committee, London; International Arbitration Institute, Paris and International Council for Commercial Arbitration, The Hague, and also served as a Council Member of the ICC Institute of World Business Law, Paris. He is a Founding and Executive Committee Member of THE IDR GROUP, London, a member of the International Board of the Energy Disputes Arbitration Center, Ankara, an Honorary Fellow of the IICRA, Dubai, UAE, and a member of the Legal Advisory Task Force of the Energy Charter Secretariat, Brussels. He has also served as a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law and its Specialist Groups: Water & Wetlands, Environmental Laws and Human Rights, and Energy Law & Climate Change and as a member of the Academic Council of the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (UMSAILS), Dhaka. He has acted as a Tribunal Chairman/arbitrator, counsel, and expert/consultant in multi-million-dollar international arbitrations (including some high-profile ICSID, ICC, and IICRA cases) and also as an International Legal Consultant to the Commonwealth Secretariat (HQ), governments, state-owned enterprises, multinational corporations and multinational law firms (including Magic Circle). He has been an Editor and on the International Editorial / Advisory Boards of several reputed international legal periodicals (MJIEL, OGEL, TDM, CEJISS). He is an author of numerous publications and has extensively published. He is listed in the WHO’S WHO IN THE WORLD 2012 He is an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.


Prof. Dr. Minas KHATCHADOURIAN

International Board Member

Minas Khatchadourian has been a general legal counsel of the Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) since June 2011. He is a graduate of LLB Alexandria Law School, Alexandria University (Egypt). He fulfilled his Master’s degree in International Business Law (LL.M) from the Institute of International Business Law (IDAI) of Cairo University and his Ph.D. on international business law from the University of Montpellier I in France. He is currently a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), L’Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA), Chartered Institute of Arbitrators – UK, International Arbitration Institute (IAI) Paris, Member of the Egyptian Bar Association (EBA), the Egyptian Association for International Law. He is also a founding member of the Egyptian ADR Association and Qatar Representative for the Transnational Institute of Arbitration – Center for International and American Law (CAILAW). He has more than 25 years’ experience in negotiating, drafting and reviewing all kinds of business agreements, legal memorandums, statements of claim and defense, administering arbitration cases, and complex litigation.


Sara KOLEILAT-ARANJO

International Board Member

Sara Koleilat-Aranjo is a Senior Associate with Al Tamimi & Company based in the Dubai office. Her practice focuses on arbitration and complex litigation. She regularly advises and represents clients in international and domestic arbitration proceedings, both ad hoc and institutional (ICC, DIAC, DIFCLCIA, GCC Centre for Commercial Arbitration, LCIA, ICSID, UNCITRAL) as well as complex commercial litigation, particularly in cases with cross-border facets. She has developed an expertise in corporate and commercial law, banking and financial law, property and construction law and energy, including oil and gas. She has been involved in proceedings in Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Oman, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia in addition to the United States, the United Kingdom and France. She is well versed in both the civil and common law legal traditions having practiced law at top tier law firms in London, Paris and Beirut prior to joining Al Tamimi & Company. She sits on the Board of Directors of ArbitralWomen and the Paris MENA Legal Club. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the ICC Arab Group and the French Arbitration Committee (CFA). She is currently a certified legal trainer with the Legal Affairs Department of the Government of Dubai.


Prof. Dr. Muthucumaraswamy SORNARAJAH

International Board Member

Muthucumaraswamy Sornarajah holds a Chair at the National University of Singapore (from 1986). He taught at the University of Ceylon from 1966 to 1973, at the University of Tasmania from 1974 to 1984. Sornarajah received law degrees from the University of Ceylon, Yale University, the London School of Economics and King’s College London (Ph.D.). He is a Professorial Fellow at the Centre for Petroleum and Natural Resources Law at the University of Dundee, Scotland. He is a Visiting Professor at the World Trade Institute of the Universities of Berne and Neuchatel, Switzerland. He is the author of The Pursuit of Nationalized Property; International Commercial Arbitration; The Law of International Joint Ventures; The International Law on Foreign Investment and The Settlement of Foreign Investment Disputes. He is the Director of the UNCTAD/WTO Programme on Investment Treaties, Pretoria and New Delhi. He is a Fellow of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration and is on the Regional Panel of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. He has sat as an arbitrator on several arbitral tribunals involving foreign investment disputes.


Prof. Dr. Don WALLACE

International Board Member

Don Wallace is Professor Emeritus and Adjunct Professor in the Georgetown Law. He specializes in the fields of international law and foreign affairs. Currently, he teaches with the other fellows Constitutional Aspects of Foreign Affairs and Investor-State Dispute Settlement. His latest writings include Regulating Public Procurement: National/International Perspectives (with Sue Arrowsmith and John Linarelli), International Business and Economics: Law and Policy (with Professors Paul Stephan and Julie Roin), Transnational Corporations and Legal Issues (with Seymour J. Rubin), A Lawyers Guide to International Business Transactions, Dear Mr. President: The Needed Turnaround in America’s International Economic Affairs, and Investor-State Arbitration (with Christopher Dugan, Noah D. Rubins and Borzu Sabahi). He has been the head of the International Law Institute since 1970. He is currently a member of the Secretary of State’s Advisory Committee on Private International Law, a U.S. Delegate to UNCITRAL, and a correspondent of UNIDROIT and the vice president of the UNIDROIT Foundation in Rome. He has also been chair of the Section of International Law and Practice of the American Bar Association and a member of the ABA House of Delegates. He has been on the roster of the World Trade Organization (WTO) panelists.
